September, 2014GeoConsult has conducted their first site visit to Niamey, Niger, with Hollingsworth Pack. Meetings were held with local clients. Drilling and testing at the selected site are both underway. A detailed environmental review is also being conducted by GeoConsult while geotechnical work is completed.August, 2014GeoConsult and Hollingsworth Pack have been selected by the US Department of State to conduct designs in the Republic of Niger. GeoConsult strives to participate with clients to achieve project goals with safe results.August, 2012Puerto Rico's first wind farm, 44 Siemens 2.3 mW turbines came on line after successful completion of construction. The facility provides 90 mW of renewable energy to PREPA's grid.August, 2011GeoConsult has been selected as designer for the Santa Isabel Wind Farm in southern Puerto Rico. The facility consists of 44 Siemens 2.3mW generators and will be constructed by Wanzek from Fargo, North Dakota for Pattern Energy from San Francisco, California. Cost of the facility is $215 million. Construction will start in September, 2011.March, 2009The Río Blanco Offstream Dam was completed.September, 2007GeoConsult completed the 30% geotechnical and civil design for Beatriz Dam in Caguas, a 40-m high earthfill dam near the town of Caguas. This facility includes a 4-km intake tunnel.July, 2006Construction continues at Rio Blanco Offstream Dam in Naguabo. Construction of more than 14,000 stone columns was completed by May 2006. A 800-meter-long soil-bentonite cutoff wall was also completed at the end of July, 2006. The completion of these works represent the end of the foundation preparations for the dam. Work in the dam's appurtenant structures continues as scheduled. GeoConsult is providing engineering and CQC services during construction of the project.March, 2006GeoConsult is pleased to announce that it has purchased a new digital seismic cone penetration testing set. This equipment is manufactured by Hogentogler & Co. under ARA/Vertek ownership. GeoConsult is the pioneer in the use of CPT testing in Puerto Rico since 2000, practice that has proven very effective and has been followed by fellow geotechnical firms in the island.March, 2005GeoConsult has recently acquired a set of fully automated, computer-controlled testing equipment manufactured by GeoTac out of Houston, TX. The equipment is capable of performing direct shear tests, consolidation tests and triaxial testing. This addition is part of the constant improvements made to our laboratory equipment with the intention of keeping with the state-of-the-art while providing the best service to our clients.January, 2005Construction has begun at the Río Blanco Offstream Reservoir in Naguabo, Puerto Rico. The facility will provide between 6 and 12 MGD of water to the eastern Puerto Rico region, where intense development threatens to outpace water supplies. The reservoir scheme was designed by Gregory Morris and Associates (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and consists of a 6-kilometer intake pipeline that skims water from a small weir and fills the offstream reservoir. The earth dam will measure 1.3 kilometers and will be 22 meters high. It was designed by Golder Associates (Atlanta, Georgia). GeoConsult conducted peer review of the structures and performed site investigation and liquefaction analyses based on SPT and SCPTu . Both Golder and GeoConsult have assigned resident engineers to the project and are conducting all QA/QC activities including an on-site test lab.The construction contract was awarded to Las Piedras Construction for $104 million. Time for construction is expected to be 32 months and should be completed by November, 2007. Ground improvement using 14,000 1.1-meter diameter columns is underway. A slurry wall seepage curtain will be subsequently installed. |
